Mattress Musical Springs to Stage

Kolby Hawkins

WJHS’ Spring Musical, Once Upon a Mattress, is a funny version of The Princess and the Pea. Once the curtain opens, you’ll be transformed into a Kingdom back in 1428. There are princesses, a king and queen, knights and ladies, and of course mattresses. The songs and dances are crazy, especially “The Spanish Panic.” This school has much talent, whether it’s with a microphone, center stage, or behind the scenes, setting up props or painting set. The cast and crew have been working extremely hard since January, and we can’t wait for you to join us May 1st at the student performance, or any of the other times the curtain goes up.

Dates:
May 1st - 4th and 5th block.
May 2nd – 7pm.
May 3rd – 7pm.
May 4th – 3pm, 7pm.

Band Bursts with Activity!

Mia Zanzucchi

The West Jessamine Colts band is bursting with activity this semester. On Thursday, March 21, the band will hold a performance for Wilmore Elementary School students.  Director Mr. Michael White has high hopes for the concert band at a KMEA sanctioned event in Somerset on Tuesday, March 26 where they will be ranked as novice, apprentice, proficient, or distinguished. Expectations are huge after the Colts band took home a distinguished rating last year. In addition, the marching band is preparing for another promising season come this fall. Recruitment has already started and rehearsals will begin the third week of July. Be sure to catch the WJHS jazz band at a performance for the whole community on April 19 at JCTC.

December Arts Update: Setting the Stage for the Spring Musical

Andrea Cox

As this semester comes to an end, practice for the spring musical begins. This year’s spring musical will be the Jessica Slaton production of “Once Upon a Mattress,” a funky new view of the classic story of the Princess and the Pea. After auditions were held just a few weeks ago, we are all excited to see the cast of strong actors and actresses, as well as some new faces to the stage. The musical is currently scheduled to open on May 2, and we are all excited to see how it turns out. We hope that you will come out to see the musical when it opens.
